Somalia Announces May 2 as Workers’ Day Holiday After May 1 Falls on Friday
Salmurux News — Published: April 30, 2026 — Somalia’s Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has announced that Saturday, May 2, 2026, will be observed as International Workers’ Day, following the coincidence of May 1 with a Friday.
Official Government Notice: The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia said the decision applies to all government institutions, non-governmental organizations, and private sector entities across the country.
Reason for the Date Change: International Workers’ Day is normally observed on May 1 each year. However, the ministry stated that because May 1, 2026, falls on a Friday, the official observance will take place on Saturday, May 2.
