The Governor of Banaadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Mungab), has officially launched the Capital Cleanliness Campaign, an initiative aimed at restoring the beauty and environmental quality of Mogadishu.
The ceremony took place along Wadnaha Road, particularly the section dividing Shibis and Yaqshid districts.
Government Leaders Participate in the Launch
The event was attended by Federal Government Ministers, Members of the Federal Parliament, officials of the Banaadir Regional Administration, and employees of the Mogadishu Municipality.
The strong attendance underscored the government’s unified commitment to promoting urban development and maintaining public hygiene.




Mungab: “Mogadishu Must Compete with Other Modern Capitals”
Dr. Mungab reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to transforming Mogadishu into a city that matches other developed capitals. He emphasized that the development plan for the Sanitation Department will be continuous and sustainable, focusing on improving both quality and workforce capacity.
“Our goal is to make Mogadishu a clean, organized, and beautiful city with a permanent and efficient sanitation system,” said Governor Mungab.
Accountability and Transparency in Waste Management
The Governor stressed that the administration will enforce strict accountability and transparency for partner companies involved in waste collection and city cleaning.
He added that consistent monitoring and evaluation mechanisms will be established to ensure effective and transparent operations across all districts.
300 Skilled Workers Assigned to the Sanitation Department
Dr. Mungab announced that 300 newly trained and qualified workers have joined the Sanitation Department as part of efforts to strengthen its capacity.
He also confirmed that the number of workers and their benefits will be increased to ensure the department can deliver high-quality and efficient services to the city.




Daily Training Program to Build a Clean City Culture
As part of the campaign, the Banaadir Regional Administration launched a daily training program for all sanitation staff and municipal workers aimed at improving their technical and operational skills in waste management.
These training sessions are held every day from Saturday to Thursday, with Friday designated as a rest and performance review day.
The training focuses on:
- Using modern waste collection equipment.
- Recycling and waste treatment methods.
- Raising community awareness about cleanliness.
- Enhancing field performance and time management.
Governor Mungab emphasized that the daily training program will help establish a long-lasting culture of cleanliness, ensuring that Mogadishu remains a cleaner and healthier city for all.
Modern Equipment and a New Sanitation Law Coming Soon
In conclusion, Governor Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Mungab) revealed that the administration will soon introduce modern sanitation equipment to support cleaning operations.
He also announced the implementation of a new Sanitation Law designed to strengthen civic responsibility and ensure public cooperation in maintaining the city’s beauty.
“Cleanliness is the soul of every city. Every citizen must take part in keeping Mogadishu clean, safe, and beautiful,” Dr. Mungab concluded.
