Mogadishu, November 10, 2025 – Strengthening Strategic Partnership for Security and Progress
The Governor of the Banadir Regional Administration and Mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Mungab), today received the Commander of the European Union Training Mission in Somalia (EUTM), Gen. Marco Manzone, at the headquarters of the Mogadishu Municipality.
The high-level meeting focused on enhancing cooperation in areas of security, reconstruction, and social service delivery all key pillars for Mogadishu’s sustainable development.




Discussion Highlights: Security, Reconstruction, and Social Development
During the meeting, both parties reviewed ongoing EU-supported projects across the Banadir region. These include initiatives in urban safety, infrastructure rebuilding, and community resilience.
The discussions underscored the need for greater alignment between EU-funded programs and the Banadir Regional Administration’s strategic development priorities, ensuring every effort contributes effectively to Mogadishu’s long-term growth.
Dr. Mungab’s Remarks: Doubling Support for National Priorities
Dr. Mungab commended the European Union for its unwavering partnership with the people of Mogadishu, noting that their contributions have been instrumental in stabilizing the city.
“The EU’s commitment has been vital to Mogadishu’s recovery. We must double our efforts to transform that support into concrete results that directly benefit citizens,” said Dr. Mungab.
He emphasized that continued collaboration would be essential in implementing upcoming national initiatives, including the Local Council Elections and community-led development programs.



Gen. Marco Manzone: EU’s Continued Commitment to Somalia
In his remarks, Gen. Marco Manzone reaffirmed the EU Mission’s commitment to working closely with Somali authorities to promote security, reconstruction, and good governance.
“We highly value our collaboration with the Banadir Regional Administration and the Municipality of Mogadishu. The EU will continue to support Somalia’s journey toward peace, stability, and institutional development,” he stated.
Outcome: Agreement to Deepen Cooperation
The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to intensify bilateral coordination and expand technical assistance to improve public service delivery.
Both leaders underscored that a secure and prosperous Mogadishu depends on strong local governance and continued international partnership especially from the European Union.
