Prime Minister Hamza: “The killings targeting our National Army are a disgrace unprecedented in our country’s history.”

Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, has for the first time addressed the recent killing of six soldiers from the Somali National Army. These soldiers were brutally murdered on the 26th of this month in Ceel Baraf, a locality in the Middle Shabelle region, in what is believed to be a clan-related vendetta.

The Prime Minister described the incident as a great tragedy, emphasizing that those responsible for the heinous act are merciless individuals devoid of any humanity.

“What happened to the Somali soldiers is deeply appalling. Those behind this crime cannot be considered human—they are butchers, monsters. It is heartbreaking to see someone who sacrifices their life to protect you treated in such a cruel manner,” said Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre.

He further assured the public that the Federal Government is actively pursuing the perpetrators of this crime and pledged that they will be brought to justice without delay.

“A Somali soldier who dedicates his life to defend you day and night should never be subjected to such a fate. This act is a stain on our nation’s history. The killings of our National Army personnel are one of the grave challenges plaguing our country, and those responsible will face swift justice,” stated the Prime Minister.

His remarks come amidst widespread public outrage following the killing of the six soldiers, who were reportedly on leave and en route to the Hiiraan region, their place of origin. Clan elders from the Hawadle community have demanded that justice be served before the soldiers’ bodies are buried.

Reports indicate that the bodies of the fallen soldiers remain in temporary morgue facilities in Beledweyne as the elders insist on accountability for the crime.

The attacks targeting the Somali National Army highlight a deeply troubling issue that requires collective efforts from Somali society to put an end to such atrocities.
