Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed Delivers Strong Rebuke of President Hassan Sheikh’s Government, Calls for National Dialogue

Mogadishu (Salmurux News) — Former Somali President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed delivered a fiery speech today at the opposition conference underway at Jazeera Hotel in Mogadishu, focusing sharply on the state of the national armed forces and the ongoing fight against the militant group Al-Shabaab.

Sheikh Sharif directly accused President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s administration of mismanagement and corruption, claiming it has led to plummeting troop morale and withdrawals from frontlines.

“I am deeply saddened that the poor leadership and corruption within the government have caused our soldiers to lose morale and abandon the frontlines — even though we know they were ready to defend their country,” Sheikh Sharif said, raising his voice to emphasize the urgency of his message.

A Call for Peace and a Political Warning

Sheikh Sharif urged national leaders to put solutions on the table and engage in genuine national dialogue to save the country, noting that the war against Al-Shabaab has long preceded President Hassan Sheikh’s tenure.

“The country’s leaders must come to the negotiating table instead of wasting time with empty accusations and political bickering. We need to draw on the wisdom of those who know how to defeat terrorism,” Sharif declared.
He added, “Others before you have led this battle. If you have failed, the easier path is to sit down and prepare for dialogue.”

Praise for Macawiisley Fighters and Condolences to the Fallen

The former president also praised the Macawiisley fighters from the Hawadle clan, who are currently engaged in fierce battles against Al-Shabaab. He extended condolences to the families of the fallen and wished a swift recovery to the wounded.

“I want to especially commend the people of Hiiraan who have shown true resilience in this fight. May God have mercy on those who have died and bring healing to the wounded,” Sheikh Sharif said, calling on the Somali people to unite in the face of extremism.

Troubling Developments on the Ground

This speech comes as Al-Shabaab recently regained control over key towns and districts in the Middle Shabelle region following the withdrawal of Somali National Army forces and local militias, raising serious concerns about security setbacks and the militant group’s expanding reach.
