Samia Suluhu Wins Tanzania Election with 98%

Dodoma — (Salmurux News)

President Samia Suluhu Hassan has secured a landslide victory in Tanzania’s national election, earning an overwhelming 98% of the vote and reaffirming her position as the country’s first female head of state and a symbol of stability in East Africa.

The National Electoral Commission announced the results on Saturday, confirming that President Samia received 31.9 million votes, with voter turnout reaching nearly 87% — a strong indication of nationwide participation and confidence in her leadership.

In her victory address at the capital Dodoma, President Samia thanked Tanzanians for their trust, describing the election as “a celebration of democracy and unity.” She praised security agencies for ensuring a smooth voting process and urged citizens to come together for the sake of national development.

“Now that the election is over, it is time to unite our country and focus on building our future together,” President Samia declared. “Tanzania has chosen peace, stability, and progress.”

President Samia, 65, who first assumed office in 2021 following the passing of President John Magufuli, has since been recognized for her inclusive leadership style and commitment to economic reform, women’s empowerment, and regional diplomacy. Her re-election marks a significant milestone in consolidating those gains.

Strong Voter Turnout and Public Confidence

Observers praised the high level of public engagement during the polls, noting the orderly conduct of voting in both mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar. Many Tanzanians expressed optimism that President Samia’s second term would continue to expand infrastructure, education, and healthcare investments, while strengthening national cohesion.

In Zanzibar, the ruling party’s candidate Hussein Mwinyi also retained his position, winning with 80% of the votes — further affirming the dominance of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party, which has led Tanzania since independence.

A Legacy of Leadership and Reform

President Samia’s leadership has been marked by a focus on modernization and inclusion, particularly in promoting women’s participation in governance, expanding digital access, and revitalizing Tanzania’s foreign relations.

Her administration has championed industrial development, attracted foreign investment, and prioritized education for girls and youth employment, earning her praise from African Union leaders and development partners.

African Union Chair Mahmoud Ali Youssouf congratulated President Samia, saying her re-election “reflects the confidence of the Tanzanian people in her vision for peace, progress, and prosperity.”

A New Chapter for Tanzania

As she embarks on her new term, President Samia pledged to continue the country’s transformation agenda and maintain Tanzania’s position as one of East Africa’s most stable democracies.

“Our victory is not for one person or one party,” she said. “It is for every Tanzanian who believes in the promise of unity, hard work, and development.”

With strong voter support and a renewed mandate, President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s next chapter promises to focus on economic resilience, youth empowerment, and international cooperation — key pillars of Tanzania’s Vision 2025.
