The Banadir Regional Administration has officially reopened three key roads in Mogadishu that were previously closed for security reasons. The initiative is part of the municipality’s broader urban mobility and economic revitalization program aimed at easing traffic flow and promoting trade within the capital.

Roads Reopened Across Key Districts
The reopened roads include:
- The road from the Aadan Cadde Airport checkpoint at KM4 leading to Tiitiinley in Wadajir District.
- The road extending from the same junction through Waaberi Bridge.
- The Beexaani Road connecting Sanca Junction to Engineer Yariisow Stadium.
These major routes are expected to significantly improve accessibility across the city and reduce long-standing traffic congestion in several neighborhoods.

Officials Attend the Ceremony
The reopening ceremony was attended by Banadir Governor and Mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Xasan Maxamed Xuseen (Mungab), along with Banadir Security Commander Liibaan Cabdiraxmaan Aadan, Police Division Commander Colonel Macalin Mahdi, and other senior security and municipal officials.
Mayor Mungab: “A Symbol of Confidence and Stability”
In his remarks, Mayor Mungab emphasized that the reopening marks a step toward restoring public confidence and urban stability in Mogadishu. He described the initiative as a cornerstone of the local government’s mission to enhance public movement, business operations, and citywide development.
“This project reflects the determination of our people and security forces who have bravely ensured that Mogadishu continues its path toward peace, safety, and economic renewal,”
said Dr. Mungab.
He noted that the government’s efforts symbolize resilience against extremist groups attempting to disrupt public life.
Part of a Larger Urban Development Plan
The project forms part of a 52-road rehabilitation plan designed to:
- Reduce traffic congestion,
- Improve access to essential services, and
- Stimulate the city’s economic growth.
A similar project had earlier reopened the back road behind the Mogadishu Municipality headquarters.
Commitment to a Safer, Cleaner, and Prosperous Capital
The Banadir Regional Administration reaffirmed its commitment to continue collaborating closely with security agencies and civil society to ensure Mogadishu remains safe, clean, and thriving for all residents.
